i had to laugh when i read kelly's comment on this post when she said, "adorable nursery" about the background of this picture. because, really, it wasn't a nursery. it was more like a "nursery wall".
that picture was taken when we lived in a cute little place. i never knew what to call it because it wasn't an apartment, it wasn't a condo, it wasn't a townhouse... it was just a place. a second-story, one-bedroom treehouse-like place.
it was our first place we lived in on our own in california. and we loved it. we lived there for three years ('03-'06) and have such great memories of living there. i never would have even looked at it as a possibility if it wasn't for my mom (she's always right by the way), and i instantly fell in love with it. from the blue-tiled kitchen and the pink-tiled bathroom, to the textured wall, squeaky wood floors and wall heater, it was just charming.
from the outside it didn't look like much... you can see why i didn't even want to look inside...
... when you walked in the door you were greeted by a stairway (with a buzzer at the top so i could buzz people in. that was a highlight)...
...which led to the blue kitchen...
...and if you turned right, you were in the living room/dining room/nursery. the whole place was windows and i LOVED it... (with our $35/a pair thrift store, slip-covered couches)...
...and the dining "area" to the left of the couches was a favorite spot. i scored that dining set from a lady i met at a garage sale. she noticed the types of things i was drawn to and said she had the perfect table for me that she was selling. and it was perfect. sadly, years later we deserted it outside a thrift store. what a nice send-off. and the floral wood screen behind me? that is my most favorite thing. (and ps, i had probably just thrown up before this picture was taken. i was pregnant and sick and it was thanksgiving and i really wanted it to taste good but it didn't. and that's my mom and dad. yay! watch for my mom's comment on this post... she will say how much she loved this place because she really did and she probably would have lived there if she could have.)
...and the "nursery wall". the catalyst for this entire post. that dresser was from an antique store and it was destined to be a changing table. and the pictures were found at our church building. my mom and i framed them in fabric... back in the day when i had time to do stuff like that. notice the cool textured wall. i dug it.
like i mentioned, it had one bedroom. and we lived there until macy was six months old. which, as you can imagine, had its conundrums. we had parker in a crib in our room and macy in a pack n' play in the living room. josh and i would watch dvds of lost and 24 on our (borrowed) ten-inch tv with the captions on and a fan blowing as to not wake the sleeping children. also, we couldn't shut our bedroom door all the way because, bless its heart, our place was old.
ah, 1143 pajaro street, we will always love you. and so will my mom.

I drive by that place almost everyday and still look up at the balcony and sigh....
What great memories we have from when you lived there. You made that place so homey and sweet. I would have moved in with you and Josh if you had room for me. Oh, and if Dave would've let me.
You need to find that sweet picture of Josh washing the dishes and Parker is holding onto his leg and Josh is looking down at her. That was one of my favorite pictures you took at that place.
I enjoyed my trip down memory lane. Only it just made me miss you guys more, if that's possible. Love you.
Robin you really have a way...what a darling place. I want you to do a picture tour of the home you live in now...please :)
thank you for the tour, this was an amazing place!
i want to live there! i'm dying over that kitchen and the windows. what state was this? it really was so darling and you have such a design flair.
i agree with abby! that kitchen! those windows! that table. i love it all!
good for you for photographing all of it. i need to do this more with the places i live.
I remember that place, I was there. It's true, it was cute!
i remember your sweet little treehouse too.
it really was as great as it sounds.
I've been there! It looked even more adorable in person, if that is possible. Thanks for sharing the pictures!
abby, it was in salinas, california. less than a mile from my parents house. i had driven by it millions of times and never even noticed it...
andi and i were just talking about that sweet little place!
i'll never forget it...and you had long hair when i visited you there...
and i remember you nursing parker on that couch and you would watch gilmore girls on that tv...
you'll never forget that charming abode!
adorable, Robin! Love it all. The thing I remember most about that little home was all the light. So cheery.
P.S. Claire really was messing with her zipper the whole time in that video - I couldn't figure it out. It's much better with sound though. Lily rings out this killer note at the end.
I LOVE that charming little home! I'm so sad I didn't really know you then, I would have loved to see it in person. I love your taste in EVERYTHING.
nursery wall, who knew? well that is one cute nursery wall and I love the charm of the place! the blue kitch is pretty sweet. you do have great taste.
hahaha, i kind of love it. it goes to show that you can pretty much sell anything on a blog. "yes, indeed! that is my huge nursery you're just seeing a part of there and the rest is even more slammin'!"
