...because i haven't been able to think of a way to express the joy i felt last weekend in new york city. (i also wanted to wait in hopes that i would be less dramatic. you know, let it wear off a little bit. but i can already tell that's not gonna happen. so, dramatic it is!)
last weekend was the third annual weekend in new york city with six of my amazing friends. (we all met in ithaca while our husbands were attending cornell.) this was our third annual nyc visit... the first being a surprise for me (and with only four of us), and last year we added amy and emily to the tradition.
we saw wicked, ate at the shake shack, had street meat, went to magnolia, walked around soho (my favorite), walked reverently past where heath ledger died, went to the moma (did you know that venetian blinds lying on the ground is art?), ate some more, shopped like crazy, and ate some more. (i did two weeks of extra spin classes in order to prepare myself for the calorie consumption.)
there were so many moments throughout the weekend when i would consciously say to myself, "this is it! we're all here! we're together again! we've been dreaming about it for a whole year and now here we are!" it was just magical. at one point i had to go into a bathroom stall just to relax my face from all the smiling and laughing. because when i am with them i can't help but smile! constantly!
the only picture with all six of us

melanie "the heartbreaker" adamson
amy "protect my womb" hamilton
brooke "will run for lip gloss" ewing
jordan "let's create gossip" hayter
emily "i just want to be on the stage" taylor
robin "are you gonna eat that?" ladle

if i was in this next picture, you would have seen that three of us were wearing red shoes

the shake shack is heavenly.

and of course, the new york city "famous person" story. so, we were eating the MOST DELICIOUS breakfast ever (no exaggeration) at norma's when i saw that we are sitting next to a famous person. i noticed him immediately (major props for me) and word quickly spread through our table and pretty soon we were trying really hard to act cool and not too obvious with our picture taking and what not. but it was zachary quinto! sylar! spock! that computer guy from season three of 24! tori spelling's friend! when he got up to leave i got all nervous and could only get this blurry picture.
the weekend was perfect and blissful. "fun" doesn't even begin to describe it. we stayed up late talking and had 12 hours of sleep during the entire weekend. but if i could, i would have stayed awake the entire time just to hang out more with these girls. and as the years go by and our collective debt to cornell depreciates, this trip may just get longer and longer so that we can enjoy each other to the max and go home sick of each other. (that would never happen, but i would like to give it a try!)
amy, emily, brooke, jordan, and melanie... i love you. and until next year, dream of tiny malt balls in your frozen custard, lemony flap jacks and fruit-filled crepes...

you MUST come to utah, robin!
p.s. i can tell i like your friend brooke^ just because she said "part time models"
oh man.
shake shack?! i know this is dramatic, but if i was rich like richy rich, i would fly to NYC at least once of month for one of those burgers. best one of my life.
looks like a sweet trip full of pretty ladies ( i love brooke's "part time models" comment too!)
you know what would almost be cooler? a ladies trip in UT? hmm.. just putting that out there.
ummm...how much money would it take to become an hounorary member of your nyc posse? i'm even willing to go through some sort of hazing just so i can be inducted into your clan. i look forward to this post every year...no kidding. you gals sure have a good thing going for you!
What Marci said!
(Soho is my favorite, too... does that give me an edge?) :)
To coin a Billy Joel phrase, you were "In a New York State of Mind". Assuming of course you remember who Billy Joel is. What great memories Princess. Papa Dave

How fun! I love that you had ME time, it's so good for us women to have that now and then. And I love how you girls all match in every picture! So cute!
ok. it's been almost two weeks and I am still having a hard time coming back to reality. I even tried making lemon pancakes so I could re-live our breakfast experience in some small way...But who was I kidding? Seriously, was there ever a more perfect weekend with more lovely girls? I say no. Until next year that is...
ahhh! i'm so jealous! i LOVE zachary quinto :b
I'm mildly obsessed with Zachary Quinto. And your haircut.
