grad school widow

reality:
waking up sore all over
facing another day without josh
unloading dishwasher
making breakfast
getting kids ready
getting myself ready
jackets, socks, shoes
cold
speech and occupational therapy
gestating
loading dishwasher
making lunch
cleaning up after lunch
keeping macy happy
changing diapers
feeling fat
helping macy go potty
gestating
being tired
hauling laundry
being tired
hauling groceries
feeling fat
being tired
dealing with parker's moodiness when she gets home
warning parker when she doesn't listen
taking things away from parker because she didn't listen
unloading dishwasher
helping macy go potty
making dinner
cleaning up after dinner
bathtime
feeling fat
storytime
warning parker when she doesn't listen
bedtime
getting up and starting over

wishful thinking:
shopping
sleeping
feeling skinny
shopping
having josh around
shopping
massages
facials
feeling skinny
hanging out with girlfriends
no kids around
housekeepers
relaxing somewhere . . . alone
shopping
not feeling so pregnant
having josh around

i want to go there.

GIRLFRIEND OF A GRAD SCHOOL STUDENT

REALITY:
wake up tired and cold - alone.
calling your boyfriend because he's not sleeping next to you.
rush to the chiropractor at 7 a.m.
rush home to somewhat get ready.
not feeling so skinny.
make breakfast for yourself.
wish you could see your boyfriend today.
pack a lunch.
start and scrape your own freezing car.
drive to work.
greet grumpy boss.
work and stare at a computer all morning.
wish you could see your boyfriend today.
eat lunch.
not feeling so skinny.
work and stare at a computer until 6:30 or 9:30 pm.
wish you could see your boyfriend today.
come home - alone.
make dinner - alone.
eat dinner - alone.
do dishes - alone.
do laundry.
pay bills.
run errands - alone.
work out.
not feeling so skinny.
read scriptures.
wish you could see your boyfriend today.
clean house.
wash face.
brush teeth.
say prayers.
call boyfriend because he's not going to bed next to you.
wishing your could have seen your boyfriend today.
go to sleep in a cold bed - alone.

NOW GO HUG THOSE BABIES, RUB THAT HEALTHY, GROWING BELLY, and KISS THAT HARD WORKING HUSBAND OF YOURS.

just saying ;)

i love you, robin but all of this instantly came to mind when i read your post. it's true when they say "the grass is always greener on the other side".

and don't worry . . . i'm not a bitter single girl yet. just look forward to doing housework and chasing noisy kids :)

whoa. this is all really depressing.

snap out of it, you two.

life is good. and if you want to argue with me i'll put you up in an alley way downtown with a shopping card and a cardboard box (if you're lucky).

no boyfriend, no husband. i scrape my own windows and i unload my own dishwasher. sometimes i shop, sometimes i work until midnight.

... but i've never felt pregnant.

ditto. no boyfriend, no husband. but a random man changed my tire tonight...

we would all agree that life is good. but reality bites sometimes.

sunshine, lollipops, rainbows...

Well good that you want to go there, in that second picture!

Only 10 days till you are here; and it is just like that picture...after the kids go to sleep.

Reality

Woke up at 10:30. I do not work right now because I am planning a wedding and we decided I did not need to work

Picked up my computer and spent over $150 at J Crew and $89 at Shabby Apple

Realized I am not skinny but I am OK....ate two pieces of buttery delicious toast on white bread

Read my scriptures

Listenend to some music and then decided to take a shower...alone

Got ready at 2:30...getting ready is the worst

Put on my 2 caret diamond ring and walked out to the brand new car my fiance bought me

Drove to the carwash....alone

Again realized I am not skinny but have really great clothes went to the bakery and bought 4 cookies.

Came home and hung out with the best friend ever for two hours while she worked and I did not

Fiance picked me up for a delicious dinner

Went back to his house and spent $230 at Banana Republic

Made Out

Came Home.....alone

Reality 2 years ago

woke up at 4:30 in a cold cell because a guard has to watch me shave

Thought about Vicoden

Ate a breakfast of instant eggs and corn flakes out of a plastic tray and traded my milk for Kool-aid

Thought about Vicoden

Went back to bed before I had to strip down for a guard and have her check me for contraband.

Fell out of my bunk and cracked 2 ribs

Really thought about Vicoden

Took a shower with like 50 other girls

Had a lunch of blended lunch meat and mayo

Read my scriptures...alone

Thought...huh every meal consists of 3000 calories....I will bet I am not skinny

Made a honey bun birthday cake from commissary

Lights out

Cried for hours...alone

Wished I had a boyfriend...because I did not want a girlfriend like everyone else around me

Thought about Vicoden

LADIES ALL I AM SAYING IS SOMETIMES LIFE SUCKS AND SOMETIMES LIFE IS SPLENDID. EACH IS A GIFT FROM GOD. ALONE.

put on a pair of red/green/blue opaque tights and wait for immediate feeling of cuteness.

this is no longer a suggestion.

wowza . . . who knew i would create such an uproar. if those of you who love me and know me know i love my life and we all know robin loves her life too! it was just when robin put all that up there it really made me realize the grass really is greener on the other side. i guess my point was we can all relate no matter the situation, that we could all use a 'break' from out individual lives. i'm obviously not very good at verbalizing what i was thinking, so i'll just stop.

love you robin and i'm glad we are both happy :)

As you know, I too am a grad school widow. I totally relate to your post and know exactly what you mean. NO we're not depressed. NO life isn't always as bad as it may look in writing. And of course, we'd never want to change our lives, our children, our husbands, or anything else. But it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the mundaneness (is that a word?) of life - and especially doing it alone most of the time. We all need to vent, to feel understood, and to have people say it will be ok. So go take a warm bath, forget about the dishes for a bit, and remember you won't be pregnant forever. And believe it or not, Josh won't be in school forever. This is you kids' one shot at childhood so help them make the most of it despite any crappy circumstances. And they say you know, you'll miss it when it's gone. I'm not sure I always believe that one... but that's what they say, so it must be true.

Love you!

i think i have previously commented on my ...dislike of THAT word robin. so cut it out.

and what's with the opaque tights suggestion? don't get me wrong, i LOVE colored tights. i just had no idea about their secret life as anti-gloom agents.
