i will always remember the summer of 2009 as a big black hole of horribleness.

...the never-ending rain in boston, turning 30, the kids getting sick, me getting sick, macy not eating for a week, being away from josh for six weeks, and being the most pregnant sick i've ever been...

but even though the whole boston thing was a bust for me and the kids (we quit after three weeks, retreating to california to be nurtured by my parents), we did have some good times. good times that i forgot to blog about. good times that get lost in my memory of the yuckiness that surrounded my whole summer.

so, while it's 16 degrees outside, i thought it would be nice to go to a warm place and document those undocumented moments that otherwise would have gone down in flames with the rest of the summer of 2009. . .

we enjoyed a day walking the streets of philadelphia

we discovered the endless joy that is playing with cotton

we visited newport, rhode island and played at the beach and saw the mansions

oliver got his first big-boy haircut

we spent a day in concord (one of my most favorite places) and played in walden pond, walked around sleepy hollow cemetery, and had a picnic by the the old north bridge.

there. i feel warmer now.

guess i was feeling a little link-happy . . .

Whoah! it's weird to actually see a picture of YOU on your blog.

good times! Even if you were feeling like crap on that beachy trip, you were looking super cute!

How come kid hair places have to have disgusting paint colors? My kids have more design style than to think that those are good colors.

That was a rough summer. I was the one taking care of all you sicko's. But I loved it because you and the kids were here.
I love all the cute pictures. I just want to eat Ollie's checks.
