daddy hungry

josh is with the kids right now and i'm enjoying some much-needed quiet.

ah.

  

he took them out on a "daddy-daughter-brother" date, as parker called it.  after two days of josh being gone, i officially declared today "daddy day".  except for his two-hour meeting at 2, he will be with them nonstop, trying to make up for the time he's missed with them during the past few weeks.  it's been a crazy semester for josh and the kids miss him lots.  

as i put parker to bed thursday night (day one of no josh) i apologized to her for being somewhat stern and kind of impatient.  

she said, "yeah, why are you being so mean?"  

i explained to her that i wasn't being mean (really, don't call child services, i wasn't being mean, just a little wound up), i just have a hard time when i'm all by myself with no one to help me, and that i can get a bit impatient. 

she said, "why don't you call our friends tomorrow to come and help you?"

good idea parker.  friends, be expecting calls next time josh leaves.

so this morning when they were getting ready to go out with josh, i told parker i wasn't going because i was going to stay home and have some alone time . . . a little break.  she said, "a break from us."  (by the way, there was no hint of sadness in her voice when she said this, just so you don't think i'm this mom who goes around yelling, "i need a break from you little monsters!  a break!  i need a break!"  no, she said it as if she completely understood. i had to laugh a little at her four-year old wisdom.)  and really, i think the kids probably need a break from me just as much.

but the point of this whole post is to emphasize just how important josh is.  we go along through our days, mostly without him, and i think we're doing fine . . . but really, we miss him and need him here.
