all about ME... and a little bit of christmas

i took piano lessons for twelve years.  from the time i was in first grade all the way through my senior year.  and then i continued into college when i decided to be a music major... well, an "on and off again" music major.  i was one of those crazies locked in the practice rooms dreaming of the outside world.  although i have never been outstanding, i do feel like i am competent.  (and a pretty good sight-reader, if i do say so myself.)

but for the past eight years i've felt like a big fat fraud whenever i told people i play the piano.  i'd correct myself and say, "well, i used to play piano."  i have felt my talent and sight-reading abilities slipping away.  but on christmas eve, josh surprised me and made my only wish come true. to be a piano player again.  he found a great piano guy and picked out one he knew i would love.  and i love it!  it reminds me of the old piano we used to have when i first started lessons.  it has chipped keys, a lovely sound, and a vintage vibe.

the time has come again for me to shine!  SHINE, i tell you!  (even if it's only my kids who are "listening" while pounding on all the low notes as i play.)

extra large picture for your viewing enjoyment.

this was our first christmas by ourselves as a family. i am 32 and i have only had four christmases without my parents at the house i grew up in. so, this was huge. but i made it through mainly by calling and annoying my family a few times a day while they were together.  (my parents and two of my brothers, sister-in-law, nephew, and niece were together and having NO fun without us.)

but we did our florida thing just fine. the kids were cute and there is really nothing like kids on christmas morning.  parker couldn't sleep the whole night before. (i'm serious.  she was up the whole night.)

here are some other pictures from christmas, as if anything else mattered besides my present.

i'm just kidding!   maybe.   okay, i am.   kind of.   no, really though...

no, sawyer did not get his own iphone.  but isn't this picture THE BEST?  yes.

and i gave myself a B- on my rolls. but an A+ goes to josh!  he totally won this christmas.

oh wow...i am impressed. tell josh that he is danny boy's official gift giving mentor and he will be expected to take dan under his wing. they can do a trial run on my birthday and for christmas i expect the works! as for your children...oh those children. why oh why can't we be neighbors...our babies are meant to be neighbors!

p.s...you are the most musically inclined lady in my world so really, you ARE a piano player...no more of this "used to be" stuff.

I never knew that about you! I am dying to take piano lessons, I've never had a one but used to play "by ear" in middle school with my friend who had a piano. We inherited my mother in law's piano this year and I crave to know! Jeff bought me a flute for christmas this year! I used to play. It's sad how much of that is gone.
merry musical christmas indeed.

although i appreciate your humility, i am here to announce to all the world that you are and always have been a piano player. i remember the good ol' days when you would delight us for hours with your jaunty tunes.

start saving your $$$. next cake show i attend, you are coming. warn josh now. no arguing.

Ah yes, the famous "if you don't use it, you'll loose it" line my mother always harped on me when I refused to go to piano and singing lessons. I always knew that I was just subpar on both but.... she's right.. whatever voice I had is now gone and don't ever get me started on the piano bit..

wow, how's that for all about me. me. me.?

Looks like a great Christmas! Being away from family sucks, I've done a handful of times now and it sucks. :)

A+ to Josh though!

Simply adore the way you styled it with the artwork above!
Way to not give up on old talents! I'm sure your piano skills will be up to par in no time and your children will be requesting concertos before they fall asleep instead of their usual Whitney Houston concerts.

robin, you are so talented. these pictures are awesome; frame the one of sawyer. i love that you asked me to guess what josh got you. i should have guessed a piano instead of...what was it i guessed?

What a great gift from your husband! I can't believe you took piano lessons for that long. You must be amazing. Do you want to come to Atlanta and take my calling of choir pianist? I'll be honest, it might make you cry. I don't think it's fair that the chorister majored in piano at BYU and then says stuff like, "I don't like boring accompaniments, so I choose songs with more interesting piano parts," and then there are 6 sharps and 10 key changes.

Sorry, I am still bitter. Good thing I was out of town on Christmas!

Your children are just the cutest things and they all win best hair awards. What a darling family.

Happy New Year!

whenever the pianist makes a mistake while playing a hymn, i think "robin can play this better"

Love your picture wall and lovely piano!!! i was just thinking how i should really learn to play if only to reenact the scene from "Swiss Family Robinson" when everyone is dancing in the tree house together. i seriously dream about that all of the time.
