i remember my mom saying that people would often forget her third child, my brother, scott. they would remember jamie (the oldest), me (the only girl), and craig (the baby). . . and then go on to say, "don't you have another one?"
oh yes, the third child. scott.
now that i have my own third child, i understand. not to say that i've ever forgotten oliver, but there may or may not have been a few times since having sawyer that oliver has slid into the background in my mind. i have caught myself mentally placing my children..."parker's at school, macy's at preschool, sawyer's right here... oh yeah, where's oliver?"
parker (the oldest), macy (the clingiest), and sawyer (the baby) are really good at "requesting" my attention. oliver, being his laid-back self, is okay with whatever he gets and is frequently forced to go along with what his sisters want.
case in point: one day we were sitting down to watch a movie and naturally, parker and macy had their own opinion. and since they're the most vocal about what they want, i often give into them. so as a princessfairydisney movie started, ollie sat on the couch, eyes wide with anticipation, clinging to "kung fu panda" thinking that's what we were about to watch. . . but it was not so. and oh, his little face as the girls' movie started! so defeated.
(i'm sounding like a bad mom. . .)
i imagine being the third of four also is a blessing. flying under the radar, often felt-sorry-for, given extra loves and treats, and probably not being disciplined quite as much as needed.
but really, who could forget this little guy?

i am the third child! and this is my life...
my parents are amazing...
you are too.
so don't worry. he'll turn out just fine.
(unless you are worried about how i turned out!)
hey i was forgotten!...once. at the stake center. it was after the Zion play rehearsal circa 1995. mom thought i was with dad. dad thought i was with mom. i ended up with the fischers. quite tramatized (just kidding). also, mom and dad went to scotland...
ANYWAY, i do remember scott's birthday always flying under the radar because mom was always at girls camp...poor guy.
also, ollie is such a cute little guy! can't wait to hang out with him in july. i know what its like to have to watch pride and prejudice instead of jumanji. i know how he feels.
Don't worry Ollie!
You and I share birth order and names. I grew up having two older sisters telling me what to do too.
One day you'll be their big-little-brother that they look to for help, and it'll all even out.
Ah, very cute.
I don't think the third child rule applies when you have all girls, or when your third is Lori. But time will tell.
All your kids are gorgeous and even for us strangers, they feel special. They are blessed for having a super mum like you.
3rd child rules never apply when you're the minority gender. when that's the case, everyone else is second rate.
I love this post! I am a thrid child myself, and so was my dad, I think it has more perks than downfalls. Like being known as the peacemaker and the get-along-girl for example! :)
