my college advisor would be so proud

growing up, i never knew what i wanted to be. in college i had roommates who stuck with their majors and knew where they were going in life. i seemed to be the only one flopping around from major to major, minor to minor. i never knew what i wanted, so i tried it all. english, music, early education, communications. i was an aimless student. so aimless, in fact, that it took me five years to get my associates degree. and that degree was pieced together by my advisor out of pity for my hopeless plight. he looked at my completed credits and just kind of made one up. true story.

but hark and alas, i have finally (in my 31st year) figured out what i want to be. drumroll please... an architectural historian. (google it... you can learn all about it.) my heart gets all fluttery and my insides get all jumpy just thinking about it.

it's hard to explain just how much i love old buildings. my love for them is almost more than i can handle. really. if i'm inside an old house with awesome character and details, or in a lovely historic building, it's as if my head is going to explode just thinking about the history and the pure awesomeness. seeing a sign in a neighborhood that says "historic district" is like striking gold to me. (am i sounding like a crazy person?) anyway, i'm obsessed.

so. . . yay for me! i've figured it out!

(one of my favorite houses in ithaca. it may be condemned, but i don't care. it speaks to me.)

on a similar note, i recently discovered this delightful blog "hooked on houses". i love it. i could look at it for hours. this blog is everything i could have ever hoped for from the internet.

(see my favorite movie house featured here -the ranch- , as well as my dream house here. didn't you just gasp when you saw that entry way?)

Man, another blog to be addicted to!

Congrats on figuring out what you want to be when you grow up. I'm not there yet, myself.

An architectural historian? Love how that sounds! Doesn't sound crazy at all to me. I say go for it! :)

Thanks for the shout-out. Always glad to meet other people who love houses as much as I do.

West Boulevard Historical district. Full of old beautiful home. My favorite street in Rapid City. I literally will find any excuse to drive on it.
