just a little ranting

(a.k.a, the post in which i actually use all caps . . .)

today i got a phone call from parker's school nurse informing me that unless she gets up to date on her immunizations (she needs two more) she will not be able to return to school. we had an appointment scheduled for parker in august, but the doctor's office had to reschedule...and reschedule again...so now she won't be seen until october 2nd. i told the nurse that and she said to have the doctor's office fax the school a note confirming the appointment.

okay, fine. i get it. kids need immunizations. but i was just getting a little ticked dealing with all this BECAUSE... they were gonna kick her out of school? for not having two shots? what about the kids whose parents don't immunize their children? i asked the nurse about this and she said they have to write a very long letter explaining their religious (or otherwise) objections to immunizations. again, fine. i get that. but HOW IN THE WORLD IS IT FAIR TO KICK OUT A CHILD BECAUSE THEY'RE LACKING TWO SHOTS WHEN THERE ARE HERDS OF UN-IMMUNIZED CHILDREN RUNNING ABOUT? i didn't have the guts to carry it out with the school nurse, but the poor receptionist at the doctor's office got a little earful from me. (she seemed to kind of agree with me, which made me feel good...)

does that make sense to you? how can a school demand immunizations from those who don't have an objection, and at the same time not demand anything of those who refrain from immunizations? i honestly, honestly, honestly do not get that. a kid who's lacking two shots has to be sent home when a kid they're sitting next to in class has had no shots whatsoever? just because their parents haven't written a lengthy explanation?

WHAT?

okay. i'm done.

On the first day of school here I overheard the secretary telling the nurse that a student was in the classroom that didn't have immunizations up-to-date. I guess they had already contacted all missing vaccine parents before school started. So the nurse was heading off to the classroom to pull him out of class and make him sit in the nurse's office until the parents picked him up, to not return until fully vaccinated. On the first day of school they put a kid through that! It is all crazy.

Well said, my friend.

I am so with you on this one. The whole thing is absolutely ridiculous. All of it.

Driftwood Place. in the woodside area (off Iverson near Notre Dame/Palma/First Baptist Church). We move saturday. Renting our house out & renting the salinas one. we're just stuck for a while, but decided we needed to make the move! Finally! Something we can agree on!

welcome to the world of hypocrisy as dictated by the State, my Princess. That is all it is. I have had to deal with this kind of idiocy all of my business life, and the sad part is is that it will only get worse in this bail-out day and age.
