my birthday. let's talk about it.

first of all, thank you everyone for taking me seriously and leaving such heartfelt comments! it was wonderful reading them (i may have even shed a tear) and i'm glad i solicited such comments. i think i'm going to do it more often...

saturday we had a family fun day: birthday edition. we decided to go to key largo mainly because it sounded cool. well, no offense beach boys, but it was basically a bust. there are really no public beaches except for a state park and a county park. we chose the county park... and we chose wrong. it was the most ghettotastic beach we have ever seen and lasted about two seconds there before we packed up and headed out of the keys.

so, what did we learn from our little adventure? key west is probably where it's at (but it was four hours away vs. two hours) and maybe we should plan a little better before we venture out into unknown territories.

anyway, we drove north and arrived at this beach (which was featured on this list) at 6:00, the perfect time to arrive at the beach! the kids were good sports, the poor darlings, all lathered up in sunscreen and wearing their bathing suits for hours before we could decide on a beach.

so... basically we drove all day when we could have just gone to a beach two miles from our house.

eh, you live and learn.

(but we did eat at a fun, delicious place in key largo, so our impression of key largo hasn't been totally jilted. it's all about the food anyway, right?)

and then monday was my birthday and it was business as usual. except, i did dress up the kids (a little) and we went to maggiano's for my birthday. and while there the cutest couple came up to us and gushed over our beautiful family and how well-behaved they were. they told us we should win a prize. i liked that. thank you nice couple. and they were right. we should win a prize.

so thanks again for the comments. i'm trying to think of another reason i can ask for some comment love. hmm... i put the laundry away? i emptied the dishwasher? i returned a phone call? the possibilities are endless...

I love all the pictures, but especially the one of Josh and Sawyer walking. What is it about those walking away pictures? I just love them. Love, Mom

You and Josh made it a great trip. and your right, it is all about the food. Cute pics, cute couple. Did anyone in the nice family say,"My, you certainly have your hands full!!!" More love when I know for sure you cleaned your room. Love Papa Dave

You returned a phone call? I have yet to master that skill, in fact i'm pretty much the worst at it. But returning blog comment? I can do that like a pro.
I'm glad you had a lovely birthday. And yes. we can totally be besties. forever!

you make having four kids look really appealing. that is one of the many reasons that i love your blog, since it'll be soon. it's been fun this far!

mine don't get the "well behaved" award today though. eek.
