i'm back. my laptop was not working and i was struggling a little with the blogging blahs (i re-read some old posts and had a bit of a moment akin to listening to your voice on an answering machine and thinking, "do i really sound like that?" which was totally uninspiring.)
but now the laptop is working and my blahs are gone and i am moving forward!
we campaigned hard and our bid for christmas visitors was chosen by my brother jamie and his estrogen-charged family (he's outnumbered, 5 to 1). they drove all the way from tennessee, a trek which took three days, and we are so glad they made the sacrifice to be here with us. we had such a wonderful time. we were with them last year in tennessee and who knew we'd be together again this year, in florida?
we did crafts sent to us from grammy which resulted in my christmas tree being covered entirely in candy cane/felt mice.

we had a wonderful christmas day playing with all our new toys and of course the typical childhood drama of "i didn't get what i wanted" and the realization that i gave the wrong toy to the wrong kid... you know, just stuff like that. also, remember as a kid the yawnfest that was watching your parents open their presents on christmas morning just waiting for them to get it over with so you could get to your next present? yeah, that's us now... excited about getting books and body wash.

jamie and i nerded it up learning all about our nifty cameras. it only took me seven months to get around to it. but jamie is a "get things done" kinda guy, so by golly, we were going to learn how to use them. (and thus resulting in camera humor for the rest of the week which bored anita and josh to tears.)

speaking of getting things done (and if you know my brother then you will probably laugh at this), while jamie was here he got to know all my neighbors better than we do because he borrowed tools from them to do various projects around my house that i had "casually" mentioned, and he also used one neighbor's computer monitor to aid in fixing my laptop. one of his neighborly visits resulted in all of us going over to a neighbor's and picking ginormous avocados from their fruitful tree. welcome to the neighborhood, jamie!

we also ventured out on a freezing cold day (it was 50 degrees! we had to wear jackets!) to gumbo limbo nature center to see turtles, big spiders, and walk the boardwalk through the hammock (that's florida-speak for forest.)

i have that stripey wrapping paper leaning up in the corner of your living room...Target!! How daring are feeling as far as paint goes? I think red could be super cute in that room - I'd never be brave enough to do it myself, but I'm sure you'd pull it off superbly.
what a fun Christmas. And thanks for asking about the dining room table cause it let me scroll back up and see your cute house. I have no idea, but I can't wait to see what you do. You really do have the best taste in home decor....love it.
what happy photos! a happiest of holidays.

We had a great time. Thank you for writing about it in such a creative way.
You pictures, by the way, are awesome!
We just made it back today.
lol rob lol. i giggled thru the whole thing, ur captions and jamie stories are the best. im surprised he didnt trade pass along cards for the tools he was borrowing from your neighbors. hes such a crack up. im still trippin ur in florida.
for a second, i thought that was craig reading to your girls. when my dad & mom visit, we always get extra friendly with the neighbors. too bad when it turns out that nice man was selling pot.
anyway, i want in on some of YOUR christmas fun. let's plan a shipley/fischer christmas some year. THINK ABOUT IT. josh + matt, jamie + robin, jamie + jan + quilt talk, my kidS + your kidssss, andi + the kitchen = tons of food for all... it would be EPIC.
