on friday we left new york for virginia to stay with josh's sister's family before continuing our trip to tennessee for christmas.
friday also happened to be the biggest snow storm in virginia within the past million years... or something like that. i swear, we checked the weather before we left. i'm not sure how we missed this small detail.
anyway, i'll just say this: our trip took 12 hours longer than expected and it involved being at a complete standstill on highway 95 for hours, followed by an attempt to get to jamie and travis' house (because we were so close!) down rural, deserted roads, which ended in us sliding off the road and getting stuck for three hours before we were finally pulled out by travis and their bishop. we finally rolled into their driveway at 6:30 am. it was awesome. of course, it could have turned out a lot worse, and i keep thinking about the "what-ifs", but fortunately we were blessed and everything turned out okay. josh asked me if this travel story topped our moving to new york story, and even though that story was awful, our lives weren't in peril like they were friday night. it was scary. i'll admit it.
also, have you ever had to go to the bathroom outside in the middle of a blizzard? i have.
i have never seen as much snow as we saw that night and the following day. i hate the snow. now more than ever.
more fun to come. . .

Glad to hear that you guys are safe now. Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Wow, you guys have the worst travel luck of all time!! To New York, to Boston, and now to Virginia/Tennessee. . . something always happens. I'm glad you are ok though. Hope you have a Merry Christmas. Make it back here safe, ok? :)
yep, i've been there. ok, not on rural road (that's scary), but the formisanos on more than one occasion have taken waaaay longer than we should have to get somewhere due to snow. it's horrible. being stuck, sitting in a car is miserable. glad you are ok, robin! wow.
aww... do you guys sing tender tennessee christmas by amy grant???
oh. and don't you always notice, that your kids do way better than you think they will?
Oh Robin! I really truly cannot imagine what that would be like. I'm so glad to hear it all ended ok. I hope your trip back home after Christmas is much MUCH more uneventful.
Glad that you made it safe! There is nothing worse than traveling in the snow! Enjoy your trip and hopefully some of it will melt before you head back!
