well, we're back from california.
and the "flying alone with three kids" thing really wasn't that terrible. i planned for the worst (tons of snacks, new little toys wrapped like presents, lots of movies), but like i mentioned before, it was simple things that got us through, like friendly strangers distracting them at rough times, and post-it notes. macy played with post-its for about a half hour during our layover in chicago, and parker constructed herself a post-it note crown. also, little princess figurines provided hours of fun. i didn't really even need anything else.
and here's the best part . . . on the flight home, they all fell asleep! i hadn't even thought of that as a possibility! here i was with my mary poppins bag full of treats, and they fell asleep. . . all at the same time! for hours!
oh, and if i hear "you've got your hands full!" one more time . . .
seriously, i should have kept track of how many times people said that to me. plus the people murmuring it to each other behind my back . . . whispering, "oh, she's got her hands full . . ."
why i oughtta . . .
i was telling macy's therapist about how many times people said that to me and she said i should just make a button to wear that says, "yes, i know. i have my hands full".
and, i might add, i like it that way.

We had so much fun with you and Parker and Macy and Ollie. I'm so glad that your trip home was good. Mom's worry you know. You do have your hands full....but you do it so well. You and Josh are awesome parents. Can't wait till our next visit.
I can relate to the "you've got your hands full" comment!! I'm glad you had a good flight back (love that you had a "mary poppins" bag!) It was fun to see you for a little while too!!
p.s. I love seeing all the fun things you guys do, since you're a salinas native, you help give me more fun ideas of things to do here!! nick likes seeing the restaurants you recommend :). BTW, would you recommend the wild animal place? we haven't been yet...and we will certainly need to check out the beautiful beach you posted!!
lets all make buttons, i'm so sick of that comment, too! might i remind anyone that i wanted these children? (past tense only applicable to certain situations)
i would have LOVED to fly with you and three children. loved it. course, i'd be making myself post-it masterpieces and forget all about caring for the little ones.
... but my creations would be amazing.
AMEN!! I hear that comment so much too. I thought I was only one annoyed by well meaning people.
I'm so glad that everything went well. Post-it's are a great idea. I've heard of and used rolls or masking tape, but post it's is a good one. What a wonderful moment when they were all asleep. Awesome. I'm glad you had a fun trip and that your lonely husband survived.
