bambi

lately, we've watched a few of the disney classics.  peter pan, pinocchio, dumbo, and today. . . bambi.
i don't know when the last time you watched any of these, but besides the fact that they're all great, did you notice the not-so-politically-correct "what makes the red man red?" song in peter pan?
or how about the repetitive use of the word "jackass" in pinocchio?
anyhoo. . . today was bambi's turn.  i knew there was the whole "bambi's mom dying" thing, but i forgot exactly how traumatizing it really is.  i think the girls almost started crying.

this first picture is the girls watching during the ice-skating scene.  such pleasant, happy countenances.  not a care in the world. . .

this next picture was taken when, you guessed it, bambi's mom was killed.
suddenly, their innocence was gone and nothing will ever be the same.
"they shot bambi's mom!?" exclaimed parker.

i wish the picture was bigger because their expressions are awesome.
in fact, click on the picture to make it bigger and you can see the true horror in their eyes.

I remember being tramatized by that scene in Bambi. I love the pictures of the before and after. Parker's quote is priceless. She wouldn't let you be killed....

Their expressions are priceless! Jessica's been into Peter Pan lately and her singing "why is the red man red" got me thinking the same things...:) By the way, Parker's quote about Josh's skin being brown was sooo funny!!!

so i should feel bad for them, and I do, I remember the first time i watched this, but I can't stop laughing right now. Parker KILLS me. I wish you would have video-taped this. I guess Bambi should officially fall into the 'real life is no fun' initiation series for kids, they have to learn it somewhere...thanks a lot Walt.

I too remember watching Bambi with my mom at the El Rey Theater in the mid or late 50's. I cried my eyes out for months. In fact, when I come to visit, let's s all watch it again and have a good cry!!! Boo Hoo. The bambi hunters including Bishop, President Locke will never be the same. Love Dad

I have tears, but not the sad kind! I'm kind of relieved to see that my kids aren't all THAT unusual! They don't much like Disney movies for that very reason - they say they're all too scary - even Maggie at 7 yrs. Toy Story? Nope, Sid's too mean. Lady and the Tramp - ol' Trusty gets hit by the car. Cinderella? Stepmother is WAY to mean especially when they show that close-up of her big green eyes! And on and on and on. Anyway, love the picture.

Hey Robin! I found you through Shayna Swiss' blog! It has been way too long (Bishop Blackham's ward!) It looks like things are going great for you and your beautiful family. I hope you don't mind if I pop in once in a while to see what's going on!

and yes, robin. you are a MOM. i feel that way teaching sometimes. i'll look at them and think, "they are calling ME ms. formisano. i have p/t teacher conferences. kids get quiet when I come in." so strange. i can't wait to be a mom.

i love you, robin.
